Dr. Hon Iau Teng Pio

Dr. Iau obtained a LLB degree and a LLM degree from the University of Macau, and a Ph D in Law from the China University of Political Science and Law. Besides practising law and appointed by Macau courts to defend criminally charged citizens, he is also a senior academic. He is the Assistant Dean of the Faculty of law of the University of Macau and an Associate Professor therein. His academic interest in criminal law is reflected in his published journal articles, “The Proceedings of Macau Criminal Procedural Law” and the “Legal Regime of Gaming”.

Dr. Iau has received certain public appointments in Macau: he is a member of the Macao SAR Chief Executive Election Committee, which is responsible to elect the head of administration for Macau; a Member of the Macau Town Planning Board; and also one of the official arbitrators of the Macau Housing Management Arbitration Centre. 

For community service, Dr. Iau is active in a number of community organizations especially in his capacity as a honorary legal advisor. He is a consultant of the Macao New Chinese Youth Association; the Director-in-charge of the Macau Society of Law, Public Administration & Translation; the Chairman of the Criminal Law Society of Macau; a Member of the Central Committee of Macau Red Cross.

On December 20, 2019, Dr Iau sworn in as a Member of the Fifth Government Executive Council of the Macao SAR. From October 2017 to October 2021, he served as a Member of the Sixth and Seventh Legislative Council of the Macao SAR. He is currently a Member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, and an Executive Director of the China Overseas Friendship Association.

In 2024, the Macao SAR Government awarded him the Medal of Merit in Education.
