.SH "DESCRIPTION"
.PP
\fBintltoolize\fR prepares a package to use the \fBintltool\fR utilities\&. \fBintltoolize\fR links or copies
various files needed by the \fBintltool\fR utilities
to the appropriate location, for use when building the package\&. You must change
your working directory to the top-level directory of the package before running \fBintltoolize\fR\&.

.SH "EXAMPLES"
.PP
\fBExample 1: Using intltoolize and the intltool Utilities\fR
.PP
To use \fBintltoolize\fR and the \fBintltool\fR
utilities, perform the following steps:
.br
.sp
1.
.mk
.in +4
.rt
Install \fBintltool\fR\&. Ensure that the
macro installed by \fBintltool\fR is in the \fBaclocal\fR path, or run the following command
.sp
.nf
.sp
example% \fBexport ACLOCAL_FLAGS=\&'-I /usr/local/share/aclocal\&'\fR
.fi
.sp
.in -4
.br
.sp
2.
.mk
.in +4
.rt
Add the following lines to the \fBautogen\&.sh\fR
file, after the call to \fBgettextize\fR:
.sp
.nf
.sp
echo "Running intltoolize"
intltoolize --copy --force --automake
.fi
.sp
.in -4
.br
.sp
3.
.mk
.in +4
.rt
Add the following line to the \fBconfigure\&.in\fR
file, near the top of the file:
.sp
.nf
.sp
AC_PROG_INTLTOOL([minimum required version])
.fi
.sp
.in -4
.br
.sp
4.
.mk
.in +4
.rt
Add \fBintltool-extract\&.in\fR, \fBintltool-merge\&.in\fR, and \fBintltool-update\&.in\fR to the EXTRA_DIST
entry in your top-level \fBMakefile\&.am\fR file, and also to
the top-level \fB\&.cvsignore\fR file\&. Also add the non-\fB\&.in\fR versions to the \fB\&.cvsignore\fR file\&.
.sp
.in -4
.br
.sp
5.
.mk
.in +4
.rt
Remove the \fBpo/desk\&.pl\fR and \fBpo/update\&.\fI*\fR\fR scripts, if present in your
source tree\&. The \fBintltool-update\fR utility will perform
equivalent functions\&.
.sp
.in -4
.PP
At this point, translatable strings will be automatically extracted
to the \fB\&.po\fR files\&.
.SH "EXIT STATUS"
.PP
The following exit values are returned:
.sp
.ne 2
.mk
\fB\fB0\fR\fR
.in +9n
